Histopathological evaluation of endometrial patterns in workup of abnormal uterine bleeding

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is defined as pattern that differs in frequency, duration and amount from the normal cyclical flow. Endometrium AUB vary depending on etiology age. The present study attempts to categorize histopathology of endometrium abnormal women various age groups.Methods: A hospital based prospective was carried out 220 cases bleeding. Paraffin processed endometrial biopsies analyzed correlating clinico-radiological data. Endometrial samples infertility pregnancy related were excluded.Results: 25 years 78 evaluated under three groups, reproductive (23%), perimenopausal (52%) postmenopausal (25%). most common group. predominant seen physiological (67.2%). Disordered proliferative (18.63%) pattern. Malignant lesions (99.5%) disordered predominantly (65.85%) As per PALM-COEIN classification, structural abnormalities (PALM) found 70 (31.9%), non-structural causes (COEIN) 150 (68.1%). thickness >16 mm radiology carcinoma.Conclusions: morphology with ovulatory abnormalities, anovulation abnormalities. Acronym useful categorizing AUB. incidence proliferation, hyperplasia malignancy extremes age, reiterates early clinic-radiological workup are mainstay detection lesions.
